Massage is an important step in training the new pup and socialization. It's never too early to have your pup become accustomed to massage. All puppies need touch
to thrive and socialization to be a happy, confident member of the family. Canine massage therapy provides both for puppies. Also, puppies tend to be very
stimulated by the world around them, so massage gives them the opportunity to calm down and relax.
In addition to socialization and general well being benefits, massage therapy is especially valuable for large breed puppies. Sprains are much more common in
fast growing breeds, so regular massage therapy sessions promotes blood circulation, which in turn helps insure growing puppy bones receive the necessary nutrients
to help prevent injury.
Massage is an activity which is enjoyable for both the puppy and for you. When petting a dog, the blood pressure for both dog and human can drop. A 2004 study
from the University of Missouri-Columbia suggested that dogs and puppies can lower the amounts of the stress hormone cortisol in people.
Massage is a great way for you and your puppy to bond. Your massaging fingers will feel similarly to a mother dog’s tongue. If your puppy is missing its
mother and littermates, massage is not only comforting, but helps the puppy accept you as a new family member.
